Can My Dog or Cat Get Swine Flu?

August 25, 2009 No comments yet

According to an article on the about.com website, H1N1 (swine flu) has not been reported as being transferable to dogs and cats. While they have their own influenza viruses to worry about, apparently the H1N1 virus is not one of them.

While virus strains are constantly mutating there’s no promise that the H1N1 virus will remain strictly transferable from humans to humans.

My take on the whole virus scare is this. Prevention is key.

Ways to prevent you and your pets from getting this virus or any other viruses are:

  • Keep Clean- Wash your hands before eating or preparing your pets meals
  • Regular Grooming- Dogs that have regular baths can be kept free of fleas or ticks that could be carrying disease.
  • Probiotics and Herbal Supplements- Many supplements on the market act as wonderful barriers against infectious invaders. Herbs like Echinacea, Golden Seal, Parthenium, Olive Leaf Extract, Black Walnut, Una de Gato (Cat’s Claw), Garlic, Thyme, and Elderberry all have antiviral properties. All safe enough for humans and dogs in small doses for prevention and larger doses as treatment.
  • Colloidal Silver- Silver particles suspended in water. A tasteless, odorless liquid that kills bacteria, viruses, and fungal infections on contact. follow with probiotics.
  • Wash Bedding and sprinkle powdered (hydrated) lime wherever your dog is likely to stay for long periods of time. This will keep fleas and ticks away.
  • Keep Hydrated- Flushing your body of toxins will strengthen your immune system by not bogging it down with so much to do.
  • Vitamin C plus Zinc- Excellent immune boosting combination.

For any questions or concerns please feel free to leave a comment or email me directly.

Many more products will be added to our selection as well. Call in or ring with any questions.
